UTM link builder
Tag the links you post, and your analytics shows which launch, post or newsletter brought each visitor, even when the browser sends no referrer. It runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent to us.
Your link
Fill in the page, the source and the medium.
Which medium to pick
Google Analytics sorts visits into channels by these tags. In its default channel group, a medium of social counts as Organic Social, email as Email and referral as Referral. The buttons above fill in a medium that lands in the channel you would expect.
Keep values lowercase. Reports list X and x as two different sources, so the builder writes everything in lowercase, with hyphens for spaces.
Where tags do not belong
Tag links you post on other sites and in emails. Leave links between your own pages untagged: a tagged internal link makes analytics credit the visit to that tag instead of the place the visitor came from.
Counting what each channel brings
Tags show where visits came from; asking new users where they heard of you catches what tags miss, such as a link shared in a group chat. Our guide to getting your first 100 users covers both.
Links from a website.show listing already carry utm_source=website.show&utm_medium=referral, so those visits show up by name in your analytics.
